Current Research

Focus: Internet Mobility, Sensor Networks, Internet of Things (IoT), Probe Vehicle Systems/Floating Car data, Privacy Protection methods with mobile devices

He devoted himself on research and development of Network Mobility system (Mobile IP, Network Mobility: NEMO) and Probe Vehicle Systems in the 1990’s. He has been an international expert of ISO/TC204/WG16 since 2000, and he is working for standardization about probe data collection, processing, dissemination, and Privacy Protection methods for Probe Vehicle System.

1997 - Current         Widely Integrated Distributed Environment (WIDE) Project
The WIDE Project was to try to archive a general mutual connectivity among every computer in the world. The process of researches has been contributing to the development of the Internet in the world.  The projects currently consists over 250 researchers throughout the nations and operate Interne which is the first Internet infrastructure in Japan.
1998-                     InternetITS/Internet CAR
Funded by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. This research supports the information society by connecting a car to the Internet and builds the system for exchanging information.  In January 2002, a large-scale verification experiment was carried out in the Kawasaki and Nagoya areas, using 2,000 vehicles.  This experiment covered the verification of several ITS infrastructure technologies, including in-car communications using IPv6, and information dissemination using DSRC.
2003-                    Mobile Reality
  Mobility on the Internet has been studied in WIDE project since 1995. The work started from designing of a protocol enabling a node seamlessly moving from one network to another. The original proposal published as an paper of ACM Communication was a proposal of enabling architectural approach on the Internet protocol. After the Internet ITS/ InternetCAR research activities, IPv6 mobile IP technologies have to provide the continuous mobility on various wireless communication technologies. This project is targeted at realizing the reality of the mobility.
